Usually the most expensive coloured stone, which takes its name from the Latin for red, Rubinus.
History
Humans discovered Ruby around 3000 BC. In Sanskrit, the sacred language of ancient India, Ruby is defined as 'Ratnaraj' meaning 'King of Gems.' Many Europeans wore rubies for guaranteeing health, wisdom, wealth and success in love. The Mogok mining area in Burma has been mined for years producing some of the world's finest quality Ruby.
